UCD Failte Refugees hosted two events during their Refugee Week 2018. Due to disruptions as a consequence of Storm Emma, events on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 1st were cancelled. These events will be rescheduled.
On Monday 26th, the students held a meet and greet, which encouraged any new students interested to join the campaign to come along and meet the team. Free pizza was served!
On Tuesday 27th, a fireside chat was held with a fantastic panel of five speakers. The speakers were Vukasin Nedeljkovic (asylumarchive.com) Lucky Khambule, Leslie Mkoko (MASI), Tuqa Al-Sarraj (artist from Palestine) and Caoimhe Butterly (Irish peace activist and film-maker). All speakers shared their stories, the challenges of direct provision and the need for people to stand up and call for an end to this system, and fight for the right to meaningful work for asylum seekers.
UCD Failte Refugees wishes to extend their thanks to all the wonderful speakers. They hope, armed with the knowledge they learned at this discussion, that they will be able to educate others, and encourage more people to join the various campaigns across the country that continue to work towards proper integration of refugees and asylum seekers into Irish society.
This event was filmed and will be available to view over the coming weeks.
