Future Friendships

July 31, 2017

On July 24th 2017, four individuals from the Failte Refugees campaign travelled to Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, to gain insight into what Failte/Welcome Refugees can do to help individuals living in reception centres. The strong message was that the residents are looking for people to talk to outside the reception centre, such as students who are willing to engage and potentially begin friendships with them. In addition, it was suggested that all the information relating to how refugees, asylum seekers. those with leave to remain and those under subsidiary protection can access third level education in Ireland, is easily accessible and collated in one place. With that in mind, we hope to work nationwide with students involved in the campaign, to collate access information on the Failte Refugees website, and support students who wish to connect and establish relationships with the residents of both reception and direct provision centres.
